Post-German Election Debate: Analysing the Future of Germany’s Political Landscape at MIUC

Yesterday’s panel discussion at MIUC was a highly engaging and thought-provoking event, bringing together experts and students for an in-depth conversation on the current political landscape in Germany.
Moderated by our student, Fabio D’Alma, the panel explored key questions surrounding Germany’s political challenges, the viability of the 5% hurdle, the confidence in newly elected Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the shifting voting patterns among young voters. The discussion also addressed the potential rise of right-wing parties, the necessity of a ‘Brandmauer’ against extremist movements, and Germany’s evolving role in international politics, particularly within the EU.
The panel, featuring Dr Ian Sinclair Begg, Christophe De Landtsheer, MPhil, Rafal Fabianowicz, PhD Candidate, Fanni Elek, PhD Candidate and MIUC student Luis Fidel Wollmann, provided diverse insights, encouraging open debate and critical engagement.
