MIUC Dean Dr Beata Fröhlich Joins Expert Roundtable on International Education
Last week, SUR in English invited experts from leading private schools and colleges along the Costa del Sol to participate in a round table on trends in international learning environments.
Moderator Rachel Haynes asked the panellists whether the current way of educating students in 2025 adequately prepared them for a successful future in the 21st century. Dr Fröhlich said that at MIUC, teaching creativity, critical thinking, and curiosity bridges the gap between theory and practice, preparing students to adapt to a continually changing world.
The panellists also discussed the importance of physical and mental health, with Dr Fröhlich noting “well-being is a top priority” and that MIUC encourages peer support between students, while also offering mental health and counselling to all students.
Southern Spain has long been home to a large international population, and to many prestigious independent universities; in MIUC’s case, the British curriculum is taught, and an International Baccalaureate is given upon graduation.
Dr Fröhlich shared that MIUC has 97 nationalities represented at the Centre which “leads to cross-cultural communication and provides students with essential skills and a global network.”
On the important topic of AI, Dr Fröhlich said that using AI is “a win-win situation if managed properly,” after other panellists discussed a blended approach that fosters curiosity, integrates technology, builds project-based learning and management skills, and applies ideas to real-world applications.
Other panellists taking part in the round table included James Riley, Co-Director of Phoenix College Malaga and Gavin Palmer, Headteacher at Sunny View School in Torremolinos educating students from two to 18 years of age. This was one of many events organised as part of the SUR in English 40th anniversary year.
