International Day of Persons with Disabilities
On 3 December, MIUC joined Aspandem in celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, taking part in a community event that brought together people of all ages and abilities. It was a reminder to all of us of why being present in the local community matters just as much as what happens inside lecture halls.
Aspandem has long been an important part of the Marbella community, supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and creating spaces where everyone is encouraged to participate fully. We were grateful for the invitation to be involved and proud to contribute in a way that felt inclusive and meaningful.
For the event, we prepared series of interactive games designed so that everyone could take part comfortably. The focus was on shared experience rather than performance, with activities encouraging cooperation, creativity, and simple enjoyment.
The energy throughout the day was uplifting. For MIUC students, the experience offered something that can’t be learned from textbooks alone: the value of presence, empathy, and showing up for others without expectation. Their enthusiasm and openness were felt throughout the event and contributed greatly to its positive spirit.
Moments like this highlight an important part of MIUC’s approach to education. Learning does not stop at academic achievement. Being part of a community means engaging with it, understanding it, and contributing to it in real ways. Events like the International Day of Persons with Disabilities remind us that education also involves responsibility, awareness, and care for the people around us.
We would like to sincerely thank Aspandem for organising the event and for welcoming MIUC into their space. We deeply respect the work they do and the commitment they show to people and families every day. Collaborations like this are a meaningful way to strengthen community ties and create experiences that stay with us long after the event itself.
We are equally proud of our students and management who took part with such warmth, creativity, and heart. Their involvement reflects the values MIUC stands for and reinforces our belief that education should always remain connected to humanity.
MIUC looks forward to continuing to engage with local organisations and initiatives that promote inclusion, understanding, and community connection, and we see this collaboration as an important step in that ongoing journey.
