Dr Juan Pedro Ruiz Guerrero obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from McGill University in Montréal, Canada. After graduation, he spent three years travelling before settling in Chicago, where he was offered the role of Marketing Manager at Illinois Bell, a former subsidiary of AT&T prior to its breakup. Eventually, he was promoted to Illinois Bell’s holding company, Ameritech Services, where he contributed to several high-profile projects such as ISND, which introduced now-standard telephone services including three-way calling, call waiting, and call-back. He also worked on Infotext, a joint venture with Alcatel that provided the first internet service in the Midwest.
Dr Juan Pedro Ruiz Guerrero later earned his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, graduating on the Dean’s List and as a member of the school’s nationally recognised Trial Advocacy Team. After clerking for Judge Warren Wolfson, he worked as a trial attorney at Clausen Miller LLP, a Chicago-based international law firm, where he not only advised clients but also served as a liaison with the firm’s offices in France.
He subsequently joined Kemper National Insurance Company as Lead Subrogation Attorney before being offered the position of Chief Operating Officer at Talgo, Inc., the North American subsidiary of the Spanish high-speed train manufacturer Talgo. Within three months, he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer, leading the company through a restructuring that resulted in the sale of five high-speed trainsets to the Washington State Department of Transportation and Amtrak, along with a 20-year maintenance contract. Under his leadership, Talgo became a leading provider of high-speed train technology in North America. Following his retirement in 2003, he shifted his focus to stock and options trading.
Throughout his academic career, Dr Juan Pedro Ruiz Guerrero has taught at DePaul University (Chicago), the University of Washington, Seattle University, and Bellevue College (Washington).
