Marbella Open Tennis Tournament

This year, MIUC staff and students had the chance to attend the Marbella Open Tennis Tournament that took place in April. Marbella’s excellent tennis facilities and privileged climate allow for year-round play, and the prestige of its tennis clubs, like the famous Puente Romano Tennis Club, makes it a prime destination for tennis enthusiasts.

Electric F-1

Puerto Banús is one of the most recognised nautical and tourist enclaves in Europe. In 2024, with the support of the Junta de Andalucía, Marbella City Council, Málaga Provincial Council, and Costa del Sol Commonwealth of Municipalities, the famous port will host the sustainable event with the greatest international projection: E1, the electric Formula-1 of the sea. E1 is a new global sport featuring the only electric motor authorised by the International Motorcycle Union.

Icons of the most successful sports careers with the greatest global projection will captain each of the E1 participating teams: Rafa Nadal, Sergio Pérez, Didier Drogba, Tom Brady, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, among others. The drivers are professionals from the Dakar Rally, Trial, W Series, or Formula Ford. Spain is represented by Laia Sanz and Cris Lazarraga, both international motor stars.

Golfing Excellence

Marbella has been named the Best Golf Destination in Europe, boasting mild winters, beautiful springs, and pleasant autumn weather, making it perfect for year-round golf. The LIV Golf Andalucia tournament, held at the prestigious Royal Valderrama Club, attracts many of the world’s best players. This year, Jon Rahm joined the ultra-lucrative circuit led by Greg Norman, competing for a total prize of $25 million, with $4 million for the champion.

Football Fever

Football is a passion in Andalucia, with clubs like Sevilla FC, Real Betis, and Malaga CF drawing enthusiastic fans. The Marbella Football Center received over 200 football teams last season, including Borussia Dortmund, Feyenoord, PSV, RB Salzburg, and Hamburg. Ironman Challenge

The Ironman in Marbella is a highly anticipated event, marking another chapter in the prestigious global Ironman series. This triathlon challenges athletes with swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, cycling through rolling hills, and running along Marbella’s beautiful promenades and historic streets.

Polo in Sotogrande

The Santa María Polo Club in Sotogrande hosts spectacular polo tournaments, attracting the finest players and teams from around the world. The 2024 International Polo Tournament promises to be a highlight, celebrating the skill and spirit of polo in a luxurious setting.

Rugby Passion

The Trocadero Marbella Rugby Club promotes rugby in and around Marbella. In 2024, Rugby Tour Spain will host the Harlequins Rugby Club, enhancing the rugby scene in the region.
