Ian Sinclair Begg, PhD

Dr Ian Sinclair Begg is a senior practitioner in the investment banking sector, with a distinguished career in the City of London and with the OPEC Fund for International Development, an affiliated United Nations organisation headquartered in Vienna.
He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Essex and pursued postgraduate studies at Southampton University, where he earned an MSc in Econometrics and a PhD.
Dr Ian Sinclair Begg is also dedicated to philanthropic and humanitarian initiatives through his engagement with the wider international community.
He is firmly committed to raising financial literacy in society and advocating for relevant policymakers and academic authorities to recognise the pressing need for graduates who are financially responsible, financially literate, and committed to expanding financial expertise and understanding—an endeavour that benefits the wider community.
Dr Ian Sinclair Begg lectures on financial literacy to master’s students at the University of Parma, the University of Calabria, and Comenius Economics University in Slovakia. Through his lecturing activities, he has highlighted the long-term benefits of a sustainable financial future through basic financial education, not only for students but also for government policymakers. In particular, he has conducted extensive work in Central Europe to raise awareness of financial literacy, especially among the underprivileged, including children and students in disadvantaged communities where the need is greatest.
Finally, Dr Begg is an international badminton player representing Austria at World and European Championships, serving as an inspiration to both older and younger generations.
